 about the project
The generic project is at the heart of Asist's advocacy service and is normally staffed by three advocates, one of whom is the Stallington Project specialist, a volunteer co-ordinator and several volunteers. ( For more information about the volunteer service  click here.)

The advocates cover both the urban and rural areas of North Staffordshire and are targeted towards service users with learning disabilities and /or mental health needs or ex residents of Stallington Hospital.

As a generic service we accept referrals from and on behalf of people with all kinds of disabilities.

The work we do varies from some people wanting us to express their views to others, to other people wanting our support whilst at meetings. An advocate’s attendance at meetings will hopefully give an individual enough confidence to express their views directly.

The average partnership lasts for four months, however, some partnerships do last longer depending on need.

Advocates work in a task centred manner that allows partnerships to be closed once the job is done.

The generic project also offers advocacy to those affected by the Staffordshire Changing Lives Programme
