Non Instructed Advocacy and the Watching Brief

How do we advocate for someone unable to express their wishes in a way we can understand? Asist argues that quality advocacy is a right for every citizen, even where there is little or no communication and, in 1995, developed a policy for advocates
working in non-instructed situations.

The 'Watching Brief' has since become a landmark approach to non-instructed advocacy. Continually updated, it now offers a holistic methodology incorporating the four major techniques currently used by advocates and advocacy services. Asist is delighted to offer a one day course, designed and delivered by practising advocates, to explore the ethics, values, challenges and skills for non instructed advocacy.

The cost of the course is:

• Third Sector, £75 at discounted rate or full cost at £85
• Other organisations, £95 at discounted rate or full cost at £105

The discounted rate is available when you book at least one month prior to the course start date, or when you book on more than one Asist training course. Cost includes course material, refreshments and lunch. Any surplus from Asist's training activities is dedicated to the provision of advocacy services.
